Tour Plan
1st Station
Our firtst stop is Eggares village where we will visit one of Naxos’ oldest remaining olive mills.
The Olive Press exhibition area features original production materials once used at the site. Here, visitors can enjoy a tour and brief presentation of how olive oil was initially produced at that time.
View actual tools and equipment that were used in the space at that time. Visit and learn about the traditional methods of olive oil production. After the tour and short trip back to olive-oil-production history, take the time to indulge in a free tasting of olive oil treats in the venue’s adjoining olive kitchen-shop nook. Taste a variety of olive oils. The homemade olive bread is delicious as are the olive cookies (vegan), “Best in the Universe” olive cake (also vegan), olive paste and specialty olive marmalade.
The outdoor patio is a soothing place to sit back and relax and enjoy some local refreshments.
2nd Station
Our transportation continues to Melanes village, where the locals discovered an impressive Kouros in a laying position within a field in the Flerio area. The archaeologist research shows that this statue dates back to 570BC. Visitors will get the chance to wander around, appreciate this exceptional monument and enjoy the landscape.
3rd Station
Our tour continues by reaching the fertile plains of western Naxos, between reeds and neatly cultivated plots, where a temple fittingly dedicated to the goddess of agriculture, Demeter, lies. Visitors will visit Demeter’s sanctuary and “Giroulas museum”.
4rd Station
Our last destination is Prombonas private Kitron Distillery with its main product, the unique citrus liqueur. It is a family business of 105 years of continuous operation. The visit concerns all stages of production. It starts with an introduction on the qualities of the citrus fruit. It continues with a small stroll in the citrus garden where you can smell and touch the fruits, then the visitors get to know the whole production process.
The tour ends with a gastronomic tasting of products in the yard where you can let loose between the tastes of all our local liquors, as well as a wide variety of local sweet palates.
